"The parameter is incorrect" when assigning a new drive letter

While attempting to reassign the drive letter for an NVME drive on Windows 10, "Disk Management" kept throwing up a warning: "The parameter is incorrect". I searched around for answers but didn't find them. So I tried simply removing the existing drive letter, and it warned me that I couldn't do so for a boot or pagefile volume. I had some time before assigned the pagefile to that drive and forgotten all about it. Changing the pagefile setup allowed me to get on with what I was doing.
